Magic in a bottle?
I dare say YES!
I had heard the praises of ORB (oil rubbed bronze) from oodles of bloggers and I had to put it to the test.
So I scoured my home in search of spray paintable items.
The searching certainly didn't take long.
My home has many dated items that were screaming for a little ORB lovin'!
Now take this guilded guy below, he's ok, but .......
....add a little ORB and voila! Hello 2010!
You can see the metallic sparkle the paint has in the detail below.
Then I decided to tackle our powder room's hardware.
Boring builder grade reigns supreme here.
Even this very old trash can received a facelift.
I swear it looks like the real thing! Whoda thunk it?!
Then I sprayed the ceramic toilet paper holder and even the bright gold door stop!
It's all in the details people!
Those bright gold door hinges and door knob are bugging me too, but that's for another day.
I even sprayed a scratched up black frame with a gorgeous pic in it.

One can costs about $6 at HD and did all these projects easily.
Rust-oleum also makes brushed nickel paint!

I have a can of spray paint and I'm not afraid to use it!
I too am a lover of ORB, although I have never heard it called that! One of these days I will post about the many, many items in our home that have been allowed to stay because of ORB :)

I'm a friend and follower of Beth's blog and came over to visit. : ) ORB has been the darling of the blogging world {I've done several projects with it myself}, but I sense a new love will be coming along. It, as well as my black and heirloom white, will always be favorites though, because they work in my house. Off to read some of your other posts!

I'm quite impressed with the transforming powers of that ORB metallic spray but, but just one question... It appears to me that that is not the same mirror - they are different sizes and have different frames. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, you noticed correctly. I had 2 very similar, ornate gold mirrors, and had forgotten to take a picture before it was painted. So the gold frame is for reference.

ReplyDeleteThe Rustoleum Universal is primer and paint in one so no priming was necessary (which I love!!!).
DeleteWow, this all looks great! Did you ever try to do any door knobs, hinges, etc and does it flake off?
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING everything that you have done. I am very interested in the towel bar and the toilet paper holder. I have the same builder grade ones in my house and do not want to spend money to replace them. I want to hit them with a can of the brush nickel from Rust-oleum. How are your items in the bathroom holding up??? I love your blog by the way!
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, Thanks so much! Everything is holding up really well except for the toilet paper holder. Because that receives the most abuse. I think for that particular item, I really would recommend using a primer first and then painting it. I've used the brushed nickel on several door knobs in the house and it's help up no problem, but for some reason that toilet paper holder hasn't. Hope that helps! :)

ReplyDeleteI wanted to share that my husband and I also went nuts with oil rubbed bronze paint a couple of years ago and changed all of the door hardware in our house from the builder grade gold...what a difference! It has held up well so far.

DeleteHello! I just found your blog from a picture of your coastal christmas tree on Pinterest. I have been reading your posts all night and am definitely going to subscribe. There is another Rustoleum color that I just love, it's called Rustic Mist. I find it has a little more depth than the ORB but both are lovely!
