Decorating a Christmas Mantel Around Your TV

Decorating a mantel when the television is above the fireplace can be challenging but it can also be fun! Think out of the box and see how you can incorporate the television into your decorating scheme. Transform the TV into a temporary present with simple craft paper and ribbon. This is a fun idea if you’re hosting a party.

Christmas Mantel with TV over Fireplace

You could always use Christmas wrapping paper but this year I was going for a more simplistic theme for the family room. The paper was cut to the TV dimensions, layered ribbons were glued on, then it was applied to the border of the TV with painter’s tape.  The TV can still be used for playing music and if you’re lucky the kids will let you keep the paper up for a whole day!!!

I like to place items with height on either side of the TV. On one side a large lantern with a candle and surrounded it with ornaments. I love the versatility of lanterns! I finding so many decorating uses for them. The other side of the mantel, has a tall glass hurricane filled with candy canes and a candle.

My front yard boxwood shrubs and holly trees provided fresh greenery for the mantel. I’m really excited about these new faceted LED lights in Warm White. The cool white lights were never appealing to me. But these have such a nice warm glow and the facets give the lights a vintage appearance. The red glass ornaments have  etching all over them that mimic frost on a window pane, and are a long time favorite of mine.

Small berry and grapevine wreaths adorn each side of the fireplace. A draping of cranberry garland and a beautiful poinsettia repeat the red and white color scheme.

Even with the gift wrapping removed, the mantel is still lovely, but isn’t it a fun and unexpected twist? For more decorating and design ideas read “How to Decorate a Thanksgiving Mantel Around Your HUGE TV”. Thanks for visiting my Christmas Mantel! Happy decorating!

  9. I love it! Your wrapped tv totally makes me smile. It wouldn't last a day at my house either. Unless I found a reason to ground everyone. ;)

  10. Great idea for the tv. I may have to do this just to see the reaction I get from hubby. Everything looks lovely.

I'm also with you on the "cold" LED lights. I let hubby talk me into them a couple of years ago. I didn't like them. I missed my warm lights. This year (darn it) water leaked into the old light bucket and now we are back to warm white. Yahoo!
