How to Make Paper Ornaments

We pulled out the tree this week and are spending some wonderful family time together decorating it. Many of our favorite ornaments are the handmade ones. I’m excited to show you all today how to make paper ornaments! These ornaments may look complicated but are incredibly easy to make and best of all, they are made from wrapping paper!

You will need the following items:

  • 2 rolls of quality, heavy weight wrapping paper
  • a yard stick
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • glue gun

Start cutting 4 inch by 30 inch strips of wrapping paper in each color. Fold each 4 inch strip in half lengthwise and crease well.

Cut paper into strips and fold

Open the strip and run a glue stick along all edges, then refold and press to seal. Repeat this with both colored strips. You should now have 2 inch by 30 inch strips.

apply glue to all edges

Take 2 strips (one of each color) and follow the guide below to start folding.

How to fold the pinwheel

Repeat this folding process until all the paper is folded. Trim off any excess from the end. Glue the last flap and press to close.

Bring both ends together and glue with a hot glue gun. To secure the center of the ornament, apply a small amount of hot glue into the center of the ornament, press and hold until set. Flip ornament over and repeat on opposite side.

Experiment with different colored papers and decorative ribbons for fun variation. Try bright colors for children or family trees and for more formal trees, you could use white, gold, or silver patterned paper combinations.
