Decorating a Dream Home {part 2}

Part 2 of Decorating a Dream Home is here! If you missed Part 1 be sure to click the link to see the amazing first floor of this Coastal Victorian Farmhouse with it’s award winning kitchen, design, decorating, and landscaping. I had the opportunity to work on this new Stephen Alexander home with designer Sharon of Goodwin Interiors, preparing the home for the ever popular Homearama home show.  Kick off your flip flops, grab your sweet tea, and let’s walk upstairs and start the 2nd floor tour!

When you reach the top of the stairs, there is a very large landing where all the bedrooms branch off from. The landing holds an office or homework nook.

Take a few step down into the enormous great room or as we call it around here, the FROG (Front Room Over Garage). This is where my kids could romp and play all afternoon (when they’re not swimming in the gorgeous pool!). A carpeted seating bench wraps around the left side storage closet.

Beautiful built ins hold books and a large screen TV. I could easily imagine family movie or game night in this fun room! It’s large enough for a pool table.

If you have to spend a ton of time doing laundry like I do, then you might as well do it in a room that looks good! The walls in this laundry room are painted with Sherwin Williams SW6225 Sleepy Blue, just like the kitchen.

Chalk board paint is painted on the wall  and dressed up with simple molding for an inexpensive and convenient message board.

I had spent quite a bit of time working in this adorable beach themed girl’s room. A beautiful mural is a feast for the eyes. Part of the mural includes a dock which “magically” extends out into the room with a custom built faux dock. Sharon, the designer, is quite clever! The window treatments resemble beach awnings just like we see down along the Virginia Beach boardwalk hotel and store fronts.

As I help Sharon unload this beach fence in from her car I totally cracked up laughing. She told me she had pulled it from a neighbor’s curbside trash pile, hoping the neighbor wasn’t peeking out their window wondering what the crazy lady wanted with her trash! Oh, how I’ve been in that situation! I just smile and wave and quickly grab up my curbside goodies! Someone’s trash is another man’s (or designer’s) treasure!

What little boy wouldn’t love this football room?!

Put the kids to bed, open the double doors and enter your master bedroom with vaulted beamed ceiling. It’s a very tranquil setting indeed!

The master bathroom boasts an enormous shower with dual rain shower heads and exquisite stone and glass tile, his and her granite sinks, and a deep soaking tub.  I don’t have a pic, but there is a MASSIVE walk in closet at the end of the bathroom.

Ok, pour me a glass of wine, light a few candles, and let mama relax in this amazing soaking tub! It has a special system that circulates the water without jets! See the control panel just to the left of the tub? What a sanctuary of tranquility!

I had so much fun arranging accessories, moving furniture, hanging artwork, and staging this award winning home. Stephen Alexander Homes won many Critics Choice Awards for this home: Gold in Excellence in Building, Gold for Best Kitchen, Gold for Best Bath, Gold for Best Furnishings, Silver for Best Floor Plan, Silver for Best Creative, Bronze for Best Pool.

Thanks for coming on my tour!

  4. My favorite room is the beachy girls room but I'd love to see them all in person. It looks like it was a great project.

    1. It's in Suffolk, VA, on the James River. Stephen Alexander has many homes/neighborhoods in Hampton Roads. Hampton Roads (also called "Tidewater")is a collection of 7 cities in southeast VA. (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, and Suffolk). Our population combined is 1.8 million and home to the largest Naval base in the world. :)
