Summer Blogger Blitz: Four Generations One Roof

Have you ever met someone who you mesh with instantly, who makes you laugh ‘til it hurts? Well that is Jessica! She’s a Boston girl who doesn’t think she has an accent (ahem), yet totally cracks up whenever she hears ME talk! And she thinks I sound funny? Well this North vs. South relationship was made in heaven because Jessica is a total gem and a very talented blogger! ABC News & This Old House have already featured her! The girls’ got it goin’ on! Welcome my 1st guest blogger in the Summer Blogger Blitz- Jessica!

Hi everyone, I am Jessica, from FourGenerationsOneRoof and I am so happy to be here today on Miss Kim's fabulous blog! Do you know that she's like a rock star in my mind? I found her blog a few months ago when I read her spring porch makeover post. I remember loving all the brick and that is how I remembered her for a while, the brick house lady :). What I love most about her, besides all of her amazing DIY and decorating talent, she is real. So real that when I make a grammatical error on a post, she'll send me emails like, "hey, you know I love you but can you fix that ......." I LOVE THAT ABOUT HER! We recently met at Haven and she is just as "real" in person as she is online. She is always there lending a helping hand when I need it. She is without a doubt, someone I can count on and for that I am so grateful. Thank you Kim for all of the help and support! Ok, enough of the huggy, kissy mush fest.

Jess profile

I started my blog almost a year ago simply to keep my friends and family updated on what life was like living under one roof with four generations. Yes, we (my husband , son and I) live with my parents and grandparents. We are a crew varying in ages of 5 to 85. We love to DIY, create tutorials and kind of make fun of each other while in the process of working.

Some of our latest projects are our recent dining room makeover,

 coastal cottage dining room

family room makeover,

 coastal cottage family room

I don't know about you, but every room in our house is really a "multi-purpose" room. Our dining room serves as an everyday eating, craft and Lego building space and the family room is for TV watching, mudroom and sewing space. Living with four generations under one roof doesn't leave a whole lot of extra rooms so I jam every nook and cranny with something! This next space, is my summer mom cave that we recently just stained and made all pretty for the summer. I am seriously thinking about enclosing this space and putting French doors off of the family room (above picture) with a padlock so nobody can enter except me.

 BHG inspired deck design

How cool would this space be enclosed with windows and wide pine planks on the vaulted ceiling? I foresee a year round mom cave in the future. How about you, do you have a mom or dad cave? Come visit us if you have a chance and let me know if you could live with four generations under one roof.

Don't be scared, we really are crazy but in a good way :) I mean, you have to be crazy to do what we do, right? Thank you so much Kim for inviting me to spend the day with your readers, it has been a pleasure!
