Psst… I want to share a design trend with you that I’m falling in love with! It’s COPPER! If you start looking around you will be seeing more of this beautiful metal adding it’s rich glow to the exterior and interior of our homes. Yes, copper prices have been at a premium for a few years now, but thankfully we are starting to see a bit of a dip and it’s becoming more affordable. Let’s take a look at all the beautiful ways homeowners are starting to use copper in home decorating.
Copper Countertops & Tables
People are moving beyond the country look of hanging copper pots and placing the copper in areas you might not expect. This gorgeous kitchen that you see above has a stunning copper countertop on it’s kitchen island and backsplash. My best friend, Tiffany, had her kitchen table (pictured below) custom made by copper artisans. I fell in love with this table. It is hammered copper that has been heated to ultra high temperature which then oxidizes the metal to create beautiful dark colorations throughout it. It is truly a work of art.
Take a seat at the copper breakfast bar and gaze across at the eye catching copper sink and range hood.
Copper Range Hoods, Sinks & Tubs
The focal point of this kitchen is undoubtedly the oversized copper range hood. The warmth of the copper tones are then repeated in the wood beams, stools, and copper chandelier.
I’ve been dying to have a copper sink ever since I found out my favorite local import store carries a variety of them!
Copper sinks aren’t only for the kitchen. Many bathrooms are being decked out in copper.
Who wouldn’t want to soak away the day’s worries in this 66” copper double slipper tub?
Copper Penny Floor
For a very different floor, you might want to try laying your own copper penny floor! How fun is this? Gorgeous!
Copper Lighting
Shiny industrial copper pendants give this kitchen a bit of bling and sparkle.
Outdoor copper fixtures are a popular option for homes along the coast. The 2012 Southern Living Idea House uses copper lanterns to flank each side of the door and one hanging above. Copper will not corrode easily in the salty and humid air and will develop a beautiful patina over time.
See how the copper sconces in the Coastal Living Galveston Idea House have darkened to a rich copper? To keep copper bright it needs to be lacquered or specially treated. The patina gives the copper a very nice character that is preferable and low maintenance.
Copper Roofs
Here in the south, having copper roofs is quite common. The copper accents add so much interest and add to the house’s character and curb appeal.
Copper Accents & Accessories
Now this copper fireplace surround is a sleek and interesting alternative to tile, brick, or moldings.
If you aren’t sure you want to commit to copper quite yet with many of the more permanent ideas above, you might want to try adding copper accessories to you home. A copper tray used for an autumn display will work wonderfully.
Or a more functional use would be a copper lazy susan in the kitchen.
Spend some family time and make memories around a hammered copper fire pit.
This past weekend I was working on adding copper to my home and I’ll show you how to get the copper look affordable with real copper and how to fake it! So stay tuned!
Are you excited about this new design trend? Which use of copper is your favorite?

ReplyDeleteMy kitchen table! :)) I still love it and have had it for 7 yrs now. I REALLY want that sink too. I had too choose at the time between copper and stainless due the price. My bar sink in the living room is copper, but I think it's time for a kitchen sink upgrade, right Kim?!
