Valentine Craft - Simple Heart Banner

Valentine’s Day decorating doesn’t get any easier than this. As y’all know, I don’t go overboard when it comes to decorating for the “sub-holidays” as I call them. Valentine’s Day counts as a “sub-holiday”. I mean, if the kids don’t get off school for it then it’s a “sub”. Make it easy, quick and pretty and I’m your gal. Don’t you agree? So to give a touch of a lovey-dovey feel to my home, I made a Valentine Craft that is a Simple Heart Banner, made out of scrap paper, book pages, and wax paper. Certainly you have those 3 items in your home already. Let’s make a banner!

 

Valentine Banner

To make a Paper Valentine Banner you will need the following:

Wax paper

Card stock in cream or white

Book pages

Sisal or hemp string and ribbon

Scissors (plain & decorative) & a hole punch

Cut out several hearts out of your wax paper, cardstock or book pages. The size is up to you. I chose 3 sizes, large, medium and small. I used an antique cutting scissor and regular scissors to cut the hearts out.

Each heart was stacked together according to size and then hole punched in the corner. I used twine for the thicker papers and ribbon for the more delicate paper.

If you take a large section of wax paper and fold it in half so it is 2-ply then you can iron it (on low heat) for just a second or two. It forms a nice thick layer of wax paper that looks like Capiz Shells. I love the translucent look and it is a micro-fraction in cost compared to real Capiz. Use some type of a sharp metal tip to write sweet Valentine messages on the wax paper hearts.

Tie each heart on to your sisal twine and voila! You have a pretty paper Valentine banner. When I turn the fireplace on, the heat waves make the hearts all a-flutter. It’s very pretty.

You can use a heart stencil if you like or free-cut the hearts, it’s up to you. I used book pages from my Twilight books… those count as ROMANCE, right?
