Newport Colony

While visiting my in-laws in California, we stopped by my favorite spot to shop in Newport Beach…FASHION ISLAND. Fashion Island is a glorious outdoor mecca of shops and restaurants, with paved corridors of brick and stone, palm trees and tropical foliage, and of course,  beautiful people that the OC is notorious for.

My jaw dropped open when we passed by the gorgeous windows displays of Newport Colony. Upon entering my heart started racing! Silly you might think, but this store embodied everything I adore in decor. My husband even commented, “Man, it’s like we just walked into your blog.” Hmmm, so he IS paying attention!

So with only an IPhone in hand, and permission of the very informative sales associate, Erin, I began snapping away! (Poor girl must have thought I was crazy. I was so giddy with excitement, ooo-ing and ahh-ing at such an exquisite collection of seaside décor. I did hand her my card, so she’d know I was legit!)

The silver sand dollar platter is a favorite of mine (of course) along with the coral bottle toppers.

wine barrel trays

Serve drinks to your guests on these European wine barrel trays.

I was swooning over the distressed wood finials.

driftwood sunburst mirror

Newport Colony has a rich variety of mirrors, as seen in the design catalogs, such as Ballard Designs & Pottery Barn.

All are framed in natural materials like driftwood, teak, sisal rope, mother of pearl, silver, and shell.

fan coral art

The wall art was simple yet stunning. This rare piece of fan coral was a favorite of mine.

How about those sea star/burlap banners!? What a brilliant idea!

My eyes didn’t know where to rest, there were so many beautiful pieces to look at.

paper dog

This little rolled newsprint pup adds a touch of whimsy. Who wouldn’t want to take him home?

silver Indian lantern      shell mirror and antlers

The twinkle and shine from these intricate Indonesian lantern lights was breathtaking…(I must have one).

And I’m not sure what antlered animal that is above…jackalope? Any guesses?

French print pillows

Parisian print linen pillows were plentiful.

I could have stayed all night, but sadly it was closing time. Newport Colony finds their goods from local artists and artisans around the world. Most items are one of a kind, so if you love something, buy it fast!

Newport Colony

They also have a second location in Laguna Beach called Laguna Colony.

Find them on Facebook under The Colony Companies.

If you have a chance to shop at Fashion Island, stop by and say hello to Erin and manager Emalee.

Tell them Kim from Sand & Sisal sent you!

  1. Kim,
Wow, what a great shop. It reminds me of a favorite shop of mine on Hilton Head Island. The large wooden mirror looks like it could be be a good a DIY as well as the burlap and starfish wall hangings.

  3. I like the Indonesian lantern lights and it would be good to have it in the house. But I think my wife wouldn't approve the old look of European wine barrel trays even if I want them.
