Paint a Lampshade with a Hidden Surprise ~ Scotch Blue Painting Party

You all remember a while back I redecorated my tween daughter’s room into a Roxy Girl Room.

 

She really needed more lighting, but I couldn’t find a lamp I loved, nor did I want to pay a lot! So I decided to buy an inexpensive lamp and decorate a lampshade that would coordinate the room perfectly!

 

Decorating this lamp was so simple and took only an hour to complete! Let me show you how! The lamp was at Target for uber cheap!

 

 

I decided where I wanted to paint stripes and simply wrapped the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape around the shade. Make sure to press the edges of the tape really well to seal them. Now it was time to paint. STARTING on the tape and stroking downward, fill the area with color.

 

 

Remove the tape right when you finish painting your first set of lines. Then allow to dry. You all know how impatient I am so I whipped out the blow dryer to speed along the drying process.

 

 

This is where I started to get nervous, knowing I had to tape OVER the stripes I had just painted 10 minutes earlier. Putting the tape to the test, I taped over the 1st set of stripes and got ready to paint the 2nd set of stripes.

 

 

But look! The lines came out clean, and the tape didn’t rip off any of the fresh paint!

 

Now comes the fun part! The little surprise I had in store for this lamp! I found this idea at Vintage Revivals and wanted to try it out for ages now. I printed out some hibiscus onto a Removable Label sheet. With my exact-o knife, I cut it out, peeled off the backing, and applied it to the INSIDE of the lamp.

 

 

This is how the lamp looks in the room with the light off, but…..

 

Turn the light on and …..ta-da! Isn’t that awesome?! I love it!
