Spring Porch Mini Makeover

This past weekend we spruced up the front porch a bit. We’ve been in the garden cleaning out weeds, adding mulch, and mowing, seeding and fertilizing the lawn. Yes spring is here! Time to work on improving the curb appeal and giving the porch a mini makeover!

Spring Front Porch

Along with spring comes spring cleaning and this porch needed a good cleaning! Besides wiping down all the wood work, and cleaning out the dirty corners, we had decided earlier that the door color just had to go. The left picture shows what the door looked like last spring with and the right picture shows A Fall Front Porch theme where we added the Monogramed Urns. I really loved the tangerine door especially in the autumn, but the color has faded over time and started looking more peachy than tangerine. This door has been black in the past and it was a scorcher to the touch, so this time I decided to paint it in an espresso brown. Granted, it’s not too far off from black but it’ll do for now until I change my mind (which means the color has a 6 month survival rate!).

Last year my door had a lovely Fresh Spring Wreath made of grapevine, forsythia, and limes, but I wanted to try something different this spring! How about a Spring Door Bucket Planter?

Fresh Spring Wreath

Years ago I had won this adorable door bucket at a Southern Living Home show. It hung on a wall in my home and held a few magazines, but I had never tried it on a door… duh… it’s called a door bucket Kim! It is very thin and I knew it wouldn’t hold a ton of flowers but I thought I’d give it a try anyhow. I lined the door bucket with the cut off corner of a large black trash bag. These bags are the very thick type that won’t leak. Next I filled it with potting soil.

These gorgeous violas then were transplanted into the door bucket. I love violas! They are so petite, bright, and cheerful! Violas also make beautiful pressed flowers.

The flowers only need watering a few times a week. Don’t they make a cheerful entrance to your approaching guests?

The planters received some creeping phlox, snapdragons, and ivy. I can’t wait for it all to grow and fill out with pops of bright color!
