Halloween Mantel

Two more weeks and Halloween with be here. The older I get the less I enjoy this holiday. I had already decorated a Fall Mantel and I really wasn’t in the mood to change it, but my sister Beth (Home Stories A to Z) hosts and annual Halloween Mantel Party and I just couldn’t tell her no! Sisters have a way of talking us into things don’t they? Creepy and scary is just not my cup of tea, but I do love Spanish moss, white pumpkins, mercury glass and lanterns. Surely I can make Halloween pretty and not too creepy with a bit of haunted beauty flair.

The backyard birch trees supplied my spooky branches and created a nice silhouette against the Comfort Gray walls. Yep, I painted the family room to match the Comfort Gray Kitchen! I’ll post about that soon.

I walked from room to room, collecting anything glass, silver, white and black and set them in a pile. Gathering everything in one place is an easy way to see what you have and quickens the decorating process. I love this vintage bottle I found at a thrift store. I drew a poison tag and burnt the edges for an old time feel.

Because I shopped my house, the only accessory I had to purchase was 10 feet of chain. I think it ran me $6. The chain garland is one of my favorite parts of this Halloween mantel!

To bring attention downward, I suspended two black mini lanterns on either side and then placed a few black pillars stacked on old books.

A vintage silver tussy mussy that was used in my wedding, holds a dried hydrangea bloom. The tarnished silver tussy mussy and silver platter holding a pumpkin on the other side adds an old and vintage feel to the ensemble.

Spanish moss softens the contrast of the bold black and white color scheme.

This lanterns were a great find last year from Lowes, and the mercury glass pillar and votive came from Target and Marshals.

The Halloween Mantel looks magical at night all lit with a roaring fire.

I hope you liked the Halloween Mantel you were able to get some different ideas on how to decorate for Halloween! How do you decorate for Halloween?

    2. Did you put a coat of primer over the blonde before you painted?

    3. No I didn't. I like using Sherwin Williams' Harmony or Emerald lines of paint. They cover really well. Our walls are very heavily textured and so I did apply a thick coat.

    1. Michaels craft store. They've moved into Christmas mode already so I'm not sure how much fall decor is left. The small crow/blackbird is from ConsumerCrafts.com (a great discount craft site).
